제2장. 미스터 수리공과 집안 개선 위원회

 

 

The most frequently expressed complaint women have about men is that men don't listen.

여자들이 남자에 대해 가장 보편적으로 많이 표현하는 불만 중의 하나는 남자는 여자의 말을 귀기울여 듣지 않는다는 것입니다. 

 

 

Either a man completely ignores her when she speaks to him, or he listens for a few beats, assesses what is bothering her, and then proudly puts on his Mr. Fix-It cap and offers her a solution to make her feel better.

남자는 여자가 말을 하는데도 완전히 무시하거나, 몇 마디만 듣고 뭐가 그녀를 신경쓰이게 하는지를 판단해버리고, 자랑스럽게 그의 수리공 모자를 쓰고는 그녀의 기분이 나아질 수 있는 해결방법을 제시합니다. 

 

He is confused when she doesn't appreciate this gesture of love.

그는 자신의 이런 사랑의 행동에 고마워 하지 않는지 혼동스러워 합니다.

 

No matter how many times she tells him that he's not listening, he doesn't get it and keeps going the same thing.

그가 그녀의 말을 듣고 있지 않다고 몇 번을 말해도, 그는 알아듯지 못하고, 똑같은 일을 반복합니다. 

 

She wants empathy, but he thinks she wants solutions.

그녀는 공감해주기를 원하지만, 그는 그녀가 해결책을 원한다고 생각합니다.

 

The most frequently expressed complaint men have about women is that women are always trying to change them.

남성들이 여성에 대해 하는 가장 보편적으로 표현하는 불만은, 여성들은 늘 남자를 변화시키려 한다는 것입니다.

 

When a woman loves a man she feels responsible to assist him in growing and tries to help him improve the way he does things.

한 여자가 한 남자를 사랑할 때, 남자가 나이지도록 도와야 한다는 책임감을 느끼면서, 그가 일하는 방식이 개선될 수 있도록 도우려 노력하게 됩니다.

 

She forms a home-Improvement committee, and he becomes her primary focus.

그녀는 집안 개선 위원회를 형성하고, 그는 그녀의 최우선 대상이 됩니다. 

 

No matter how much he resists her help, she persists waiting for any opportunity to help him or tell him what to do.

몇 번이고 그가 그녀의 도움을 거절하더라도, 그녀는 기회만 생기면 그를 돕기를 고집하거나, 그가 무엇을 해야 할지를 정해줍니다.

 

She thinks she's nurturing him, while he feels he's being controlled. Instead, he wants her acceptance.

그녀는 그를 보살핀다고 생각합니다만, 그는 조종당한다고 느낍니다. 그는 그녀에게 인정 받기를 원합니다.

These two problems can finally be solved by first understanding why men offer solutions and why women seek to improve.

이 두가지 문제들은 먼저, 왜 남자들은 해결방안을 제시하려하고 왜 여성들은 개선점을 모색하려하는지를 이해할 때, 결국 해결될 것입니다.

 

Let's pretend to go back in time, where by observing life on Mars and Venus – before the planets discovered one another or came to Earth - we can gain some insights into men and women.

그럼 화성과 금성의 삶으로 돌아가서 - 행성들이 하나 하나 발견되기 전, 아니면 지구로 오기 전 - 남자와 여자에 관한 어떤 통찰력을 얻을 수 있을 것입니다.
